At the Career Exploration Centre (CEC) our goal is to introduce the endless possibilities of an applied education to as many young people as possible. Our goal is to introduce them to careers that they didn’t even know existed and that are critical to industries such as yours. We want to show the next generation of post-secondary students how an applied education offers rewarding jobs and a bright future.
We are here to help students discover, plan for and begin their chosen careers in Alberta’s industries as quickly as they can. The baby boomers that made up our workforce are reaching retirement age. Our province and our nation need highly educated, highly skilled workers to enter the workforce and fill the gap.
Career exploration, through the SAITCity program, dual credential programs, SAIT’s Summer Camps, and annual Open House, is a critical part of SAIT’s youth engagement strategy. Since our first Open House in 1953 and the SAIT Summer Camps which began in 2004, thousands of prospective students have visited, explored and gone on to register as students in our growing number of programs and courses.
Employers continue to have a strong demand for SAIT graduates. In a 2015 survey, 99 per cent indicated that they are somewhat or very likely to hire our grads. Technical skills and technical knowledge were identified as the most important skills and attributes of SAIT graduates. The high standards of SAIT-trained students led to nearly 90 per cent of employers rating their employee quality as satisfactory or very satisfactory.
